Another Greenlight Update

Hi everyone! Last time I wrote about Letter Quest’s progress on Steam Greenlight it was about 66% of the way to the top 100, and that was about three weeks ago. A lot has changed since then! Due to the help of some really amazing people at a couple of popular Steam Groups, we’ve gotten so many more votes. We’re currently sitting at #67 on all of Greenlight!! Most people think that another batch of games will be chosen soon, possibly tomorrow, so we’re hoping Letter Quest gets included…which would be so amazing! Here’s what our current stats look like, and as a funny thing to note, seven hours ago we had around 5100 yes votes and were 99% of the way to the top 100 – it’s been an amazing day so far, and it’s only lunch time: And here’s the real crazy bit, our progress since we started, look at the crazy spike so far today: If you can’t tell, we’re thrilled about all of this! We’ve been working hard for…oh my, 132 days it says on those charts…trying to get Letter Quest noticed. It’s finally happening! We want to offer our sincerest thanks to everyone that has helped spread the word, voted, tweeted, retweeted, shared, and otherwise mentioned Letter Quest. Here’s hoping it will get onto Steam soon and will do well enough that we can afford to make more games! If you haven’t voted yet, please consider doing so here,...

Steam Greenlight Update

I wanted to update everyone on our progress on Steam Greenlight. This was written on August 5, 2014, and we’ve made a lot of progress in the last week! According to Steam’s stats, we’re 66% of the way to the top 100. A week ago we were only 50% of the way there! Valve recently approved another batch of Greenlight titles, although this time they only chose 50 (the last several batches have been 75 games each). I also noticed that a lot of the games that had been in the top 20 didn’t get chosen this time…and most of those had done “vote and get a free copy of the game” giveaways, so maybe Valve has noticed and isn’t approving games that use that tactic? I am curious about something though, because it doesn’t make very much sense to me. Here’s the current chart of our progress on Greenlight, compared to several of the current top games: Notice how the top #100 item (the darker blue line) is actually less/lower than our line (bright green) at the end…so I’m not sure how we’re only 66% of the way to the top 100 if we already have more yes votes than the #100 item? I’m thinking that Valve is not just basing the top 100 on votes, but if that’s true, then I’m not sure what other criteria they’re using, or why we keep climbing up 1% for every 50 or so votes that we get. 😉 Anyone else noticing the same thing? Hopefully we’ll keep up our current momentum, and get some more coverage about Letter Quest so that we can bring it to Steam soon! If you have a moment, consider voting for Letter Quest on Greenlight....

Word Definitions in Desktop Version!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted! I’ve been incredibly busy working on the desktop version of Letter Quest! I’m excited to announce that I’ve managed to get the definitions of about 150,000 of our 180,000 words into the game! This is a feature that we’ve wanted to add since the beginning, and it really takes the game from just a fun word game, to one that can actually teach you a little bit as you play! As you can see in the screenshots (which include some VERY placeholder UI, it will be much prettier soon, we promise!), the last word that you spelled will be shown along with its definition in the panel at the bottom-left. Also, as you spell words, if a valid word is spelled, there will be a little question mark button you can push that will instantly bring up the definition of the word you’re currently spelling. We’re trying very hard to see if it’s possible to cram all of this information into the mobile version, but for now this is a desktop-only feature. We’re doing everything we can to make it work on mobile too, but it’s a challenging problem to figure out! As usual, the bandits will try to work their bacon-infused magic to make it happen! 🙂 Here’s some screenshots showing off this sweet feature! If you like what you see, consider voting for Letter Quest on Steam Greenlight, it would really help us out! Have a great weekend...

Introducing Rose!

As we finally get ready to release our huge v1.1.1 mega-update for Letter Quest, we thought it would be a good time to formally introduce Rose, our second playable character. Rose joins Grimm as another Reaper attempting to help clean up the ghost problem that they seem to be having. She has her own custom weapon, which provides a bonus to max health. She also has different starting stats than Grimm: she starts with a bit less health and critical damage bonus, but she starts with more armor/defense, a bonus to how much health each health potion restores, and has a higher chance of getting a critical attack and dodging attacks. We’re excited to add Rose to the Reaper family, look forward to playing as her when the new update hits the App Store and Google Play (and of course she’ll also be in the desktop version). Don’t forget to vote for Letter Quest on Steam...

Steam Greenlight Submission!

Yesterday (April 11, 2014) we added Letter Quest: Grimm’s Journey to Steam Greenlight‘s voting system. We’re hoping that it gets greenlit, as we think that Letter Quest would be a great game on Steam. We’ve had a ton of players asking for a desktop version for several months, and this would certainly help us get there! If you’d like to help us out, vote “yes” by clicking the link below. Thank you so much! Creating the Greenlight page was actually pretty straightforward, although it was a huge amount of work. We recently redesigned the entire UI in Letter Quest, partly because we wanted to improve on how it looked before, and also because we really wanted the game to shine on the Greenlight page. We also created a new trailer for Greenlight, with the Greenlight logo at the end. And then we wrote the description for the Greenlight page, which went through about a dozen revisions and took far too long! We’ve been live on Greenlight for about 16 hours now, and here’s our current stats: It’s hard not to get addicted to refreshing that page to see the changes. So far I’m doing well, probably because I’m too busy with the overwhelming amount of work that’s still remaining with getting Letter Quest on Amazon Apps, PC/Mac, the Mac App Store, finishing the new update, etc. Ah, the life of an indie! I’ll try to post some update posts every day or two with our progress on Steam Greenlight, and any tips/tricks that I figure out along the way! For now I leave you with this excellent article from Tuts+ about getting onto Steam Greenlight. Honestly everyone should read all of their articles as there’s some great info in...
